Pursuit of Happiness Hour: Because It's Been That Kind of Week

I sometimes long for the electric days of 2008. My friends and I were fueled by a feeling that the country was finally on to the lies and broken promises of Bush-Cheney and ready for a change. Tea parties were for scones and Earl Grey and Twitter was just a fun tool we used to communicate (instead of a fun tool for Tools).

We felt optimism for the future (and dare I say, HOPE). And on Fridays at MOMocrats, we liked to engage in what we called our Pursuit of Happiness Hour.

Three years later, the GOP has done everything in its power to turn HOPE into MOPE. Can you blame me for thinking to myself, "I need a drink"?

Here are some recipes to help you unwind from a weird week:

CyberSex On the Beach
Enjoy this with your favorite smartphone and Twitter app. Just be careful what you type! 

1/2 oz. Black Raspberry Liqueur (such as Chambord)
1/2 oz. Melon Liqueur (such as Midori)
1/2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Pineapple Juice
Cranberry Juice

Stir first four ingredients with ice and strain into a glass. Top with Cranberry juice. 

Callista Gingrich Diamond Fizz
You don't need the company of a campaign team to enjoy sipping one of these. Why not pop in a movie? We suggest streaming Breakfast at Tiffany's. 

Juice of 1/2 Lemon
1 tsp. Powdered Sugar
2 oz. Gin
Chilled Champagne

Shake first three ingredients with ice and strain into highball glass over two cubes of ice. Fill with champagne and stir.

Sarah Palin Monkey Wrench
The perfect drink to serve while upstaging the competition in the next town. 

1 1/2 oz Light Rum
Grapefruit Juice

Pour rum into tall glass filled with ice. Fill with grapefruit juice and stir.
